Statistics NZ recently updated their recommended standards for these popular demographic questions. Find out the evidence and rationale behind the redesign, and understand how New Zealanders view/ respond, so you know how to interpret your results.

This is an informal discussion rather than a formal presentation.

Please note we can only fit a limited number of people in the room we have booked. If you cannot attend on the day, then please let us know and we can let anyone who has been shortlisted come instead.

Presenter Micah Davison is a Senior Advisor in the Data and Statistical Standards team of Stats NZ. He led the conceptual work, stakeholder engagement and public consultation process to develop the new statistical standard for gender, sex and variations of sex characteristics. Micah is now working to support implementation of the standard in Stats NZ surveys, and data collected by other agencies.
